Take Time for Your Annual Gynecologic Exam

At OBGYN Specialists of Columbus we provide annual gynecologic exams, often called “well-woman exams”. These are routine checkups to ensure that your body is healthy inside and out. Scheduling an annual exam is one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself. By taking the time to “check-in” with your body and discuss with Dr. Rees any potential risks or concerns you may have.

When Should a Woman Have Her First Exam?

According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), a women’s first reproductive health visit / annual exam should take place around the ages of 13 – 15. We provide a comfortable and friendly environment for all of our patients, whether this is your first visit to the gynecologists or you’ve been coming to our office for years.

At OBGYN Specialist of Columbus, we provide the following items in your annual exam appointment:

  • Evaluation of your current health status.

During your annual wellness exam, Dr. Rees may also include information on which vaccinations are recommended based on your age and risks. These can include the flu shot, Tdap, and HPV. Additionally, annual testing for sexually transmitted diseases is recommended for sexually active adolescents and adults.

Do I Still Need an Annual Exam if I am Menopausal, Perimenopausal or Postmenopausal?

Yes! If you are beginning to go through menopause or are already there, the annual exam is still an invaluable chance to talk to Dr. Rees one on one about your options for managing menopausal symptoms, how to prevent osteoporosis, and other in-house wellness services we offer at OBGYN Specialists.
